From the publisher:
“In this work, Rock Paper Scissors, A-FL has sourced a wide range of bargain bin albums from rock bands. On each album cover, the artist has traced and cut out the silhouette of a pair of Fiskars classic scissors. Drawing out the materiality of paper whilst describing the iconic object, the work collapses genre, material and form, until Rock Paper Scissors becomes a single object containing a web of intentions and significations.

In the game, which is spatial and performative, participants’ hands transform into symbolic objects. Just as the game’s gestures influence the outcome, the isolated details of the record covers alter their reading, challenging their function as material objects and role as works of art. With the silhouette remaining consistent, each work is unique and assigned randomly, echoing the unpredictable outcome of the game itself. “
